Pumpkin Pie Playdough makes a great twist on the original playdough recipe. It is a little bit more complicated to make, but it smells absolutely delicious and it is a great way to take your homemade playdough making project with your kids to the next level. This playdough recipe is not an edible playdough so make sure that even though it smells fantastic no one eats it! It makes a great combination with gingerbread playdough and chocolate playdough as a set of scented playdoughs, very festive!
Ingredients for this pumpkin pie playdough recipe:
- flour – 5.5 cups
- salt – 2 cups

This pumpkin recipe for playdough makes for a much better smelling playdough though it is considerably more work than the traditional playdough recipe and needs quite a few more ingredients. It is worth the effort though and your kids will love it. In particular it makes a great recipe for kids who are a bit older and looking for a more advanced craft project rather than a simple toy.

why is this recipe unsafe to eat? I’m just wondering if a kid puts some in their mouth when I’m not looking, is it a big deal? I really want to try this but I know my 2 year old might taste even as vigilant as I would try to be ( :
I don’t think you’re supposed to eat cream of tartar raw. You can substitute it with things though. Check out the Classic recipe for an example of that.
Cream of tartar maybe shouldn’t be eaten raw, though it is an ingredient in meringue, which you don’t cook when on top of a pie. I think that you can’t eat this because of the amount of salt in it. It probably smells great, but tastes like the saltiest pumpkin pie, or the most festive holiday ocean.
Is it just the pumpkin pie spice you use when making a pie that you use or is it a mixture of spices? Could someone help me on this? Thanks.
That’s why u cook it…so it isn’t raw cream of tartar. Says it in the instructions
This just looks like a much larger recipe than the traditional playdough with some spices added. Am I missing something? Can I just make the traditional recipe and add pumpkin pie spice?
this turned out perfect!! i used baking soda instead of cream of tartar. no need to worry about kids eating it, it is wayyy too salty. my kids took one lick & turned their noses up:)
