Microwave Playdough Recipe

This microwave playdough recipe is another great easy option to make your own homemade playdough. It is easy to cook and quite safe for kids to make because of the microwave. It can also last for quite a long time if stored properly. The only disadvantages here is that the microwave playdough does not have as nice a texture as a cooked recipe for playdough as you can see in the picture below. I would only make this one if you feel the need to experiment with new playdough recipes. It creates a very gooey playdough that is not really like classic playdough and doesn’t hold its form as well.

Ingredients for this microwave playdough recipe:

  • flour- 1 cup
  • salt – 0.5 cups
  • cream of tartar – 2 tsp
  • water – 1 cup
  • cooking oil – 1 tbsp
  • food coloring – 1 drop – your choice

Directions for this microwave playdough recipe:

  • Mix all dry ingredients together in a bowl
  • Add water, cooking oil, and food coloring
  • Mix both sets of ingredients together
  • Microwave for 2 minutes twice, stirring in between
  • Let it cool
  • Knead until texture is to taste

This microwave playdough recipe is good for kids as they do not have to use the stove at all. Though it still required supervision because of the microwave this is a great playdough recipe for kids. It is a little bit more complicated than some other recipes and takes about 20 minutes to make. If you store this microwave playdough in an airtight container in the fridge it keep well.

Hello, I just made this recipe. Try cooking it two minutes at a time and stir it in between. The texture gets much better(in my opinion it gets just like playdough).

    Thanks for the feedback!

I agree with Aimee, I’ve been making this for years. The trick is that after cooking and stirring every 2-3 minutes, you have to kneed it while it’s still warm. I think it comes out just like playdoh.

This dough turned out good, but it isn’t holding the moisture as well as the jello recipe. :)
