Want to add edible playdough to your deserts? Make edible creations? This playdough recipe is fully edible. You can have all kinds of fun with this homemade playdough, from building on birthday cakes to make faux food! This is every kids dream, playdough they are allowed and encouraged to eat! And with Kool-Aid you can’t go wrong. This is a great fun treat for kids especially for birthday parties and events. Using this playdough recipe you can create all kinds of kid fun. This recipe is hard to get just right, but if you can nail it it makes for a great edible playdough. If you are struggling with it try the classic playdough recipe first!

Edible Playdough Recipe

Ingredients for this edible playdough recipe:

  • flour – 1 cup
  • water – 1 cup
  • sugar – 0.5 cup
  • vegetable oil – 1 tsp
  • cream of tartar – 3 tsp
  • 1 package of Jello Mix

Directions for this edible playdough recipe:


  • Add all the dry ingredients to a large mixing bowl
  • Mix them together until consistent
  • Add the water and the oil
  • Mix and then pour into a pan over medium heat
  • Cook until mixture becomes doughy
  • Let cool on wax paper
  • Knead in some extra flour for texture
  • Read to go!

This recipe for playdough will be a kid favorite and it is very easy to make. The playdough will be the same color and flavor as the Jello you use. You can mix Jello flavors or create several different batches to have some variety and color in your edible creations. If you don’t like the consistency you can always go back to a traditional playdough recipe or a jello playdough recipe!

    I made this recipe exactly as stated. It turned out awesome except for 1 thing. Using the 1/2 cup of salt as stated made it so salty that it was disgusting. Am going to try it with 1/2 cup of sugar instead.

    Is there a recipe for edible playdough that uses the microwave? I want to make this with some students and don’t have access to a stove.
